Does LocalShred drop shreds on the raw forwarding path? Print

  • 0

We measured this over multiple 6-minute windows covering all leaders and all slots, not a favourable subset. The result was zero slot gaps, meaning no dropped slot ranges anywhere in the stream. The only loss category on the forwarding path is late-drop shreds, which are shreds classified as "old" because a newer copy already superseded them. These are bursty in nature, typically ranging from 0% to roughly 0.2%, with spikes toward approximately 1% in the busiest windows. One clean 6-minute window measured exactly 0.00%. It is important to understand that a late-dropped shred is not lost data: it is a duplicate arriving after the race has already been won, so it carries no information you did not already have.
